Scholarship Support to Equitas Birds Nest Children
Equitas lauched Equitas Birds Nest (EBN) in the year 2009, a comprehensive rehabilitation program to empower economically weaker and highly vulnerable segment of homeless families. Equitas deployed a wide range of its Ecosystem initiatives (health & Hygiene, Skill Training, counselling, food security, Education and job placement for unemployed) in delivering this intervention mechanism to the target segment through the women of the household.
Story of Mrs. Valli Mother of Ms.Mugineswari
Through the EBN project, we were able to rehabilitate Mrs. Valli and her Children in Otteri. Her husband left her thirteen years ago, and since then, she has been working as a housemaid as well as selling flowers by evenings in Dasamahan Pulianthope and earning a monthly income of Rs. 9000/-. Her elder daughter, Ms. Mugineswari, is currently studying in the 12th standard at Balanaidu Higher secondary school (Government) in Purasaiwalkam. Thanks to the support from the Saraswathy Educational Cultural and Charitable Trust, she has been receiving educational assistance from her 8th standard.
Since 2008, Equitas Development Initiatives Trust in collaboration with Saraswathy Educational Cultural and Charitable Trust, has provided advisory services and financial assistance to support the higher education of 2,546 children from homeless families who were rehabilitated from the pavements.
